  Maximizing Sustainable Results through Engagement

Designing Participation
that Works

A recent national survey of workers and managers was conducted by Harris Interactive Inc., focusing on the issue of workplace engagement. The survey produced a few key findings: Only 20 percent of workers feel very passionate about their jobs; less than 15 percent feel strongly energized by their work; and only 31 percent (strongly or moderately) believe that their employer inspires the best in them.

In a nutshell, workplace engagement and commitment are at an all-time low. This represents a crisis as the accelerating pace of global competition acts to create an entirely new market space that is forcing businesses to elicit maximum workforce performance, creativity and innovation. But sustaining that kind of sustainable workforce excellence can only happen where very high levels of workplace engagement and commitment are the norm.

At Participative Designs our focus is creating the kind of workplace where every individual feels fully committed and engaged - head, hands and heart - from the most senior leader to the staff on the front line.

We would love to work with you to design exactly the right kind of participation for your organization - participation that works!

A Strategic Approach to Participation, Creativity and Collaboration

Imagine a group of from 20 to 200 employees with their managers and supervisors intensively working together on the implementation of a new business strategy, client service program, performance improvement opportunity or organizational change initiative.

The tone is collaborative and proactive despite the complex nature of the issues and concerns that are being wrestled with. Each person's unique perspective and input is being considered within an accelerated learning and action planning process. Problems and barriers are being flagged and action plans are being integrated into the larger change implementation process prior to launch.

The secret is employee engagement through designed interactive, communication and action planning sessions. Gain employee input and ideas without chaos, work on issues without paralysis by analysis or slowing down the implementation process. Align, build commitment and move quickly through ongoing employee dialogue sessions, end user input sessions, change implementation action planning sessions and larger group meetings.

The results are proven - shorter implementation times, less resistance, increased buy in, joint problem solving, shared best practices and the building of positive, proactive work culture. The leadership team learns the value of engaging employees and how to balance setting the course with engaging people in the process of getting there.

Thought Leaders including Peter Senge, Meg Wheatly, Peter Block and John Kotter all recommend participation through engagement using methods such as the Appreciative Inquiry , Knowledge Cafe, Real Time Strategic Change, Open Space and Future Search.
